A Snake Expedition tests a charmingly compact idea: let a snake roam between tiny puzzle islands instead of trapping it in a single grid. The prototype is designed to finish in a few minutes, with undo and restart controls close at hand. Its open-world ambition is currently more sketchbook than saga, which is part of the appeal.
What is A Snake Expedition?
The current page presents a browser puzzle built around movement, exploration, and a very small expedition. You steer with WASD or the arrow keys, tap Z to unwind a mistake, and use R when an island needs a clean slate. That generous undo button matters in a snake puzzle, where one innocent turn can tie the route into a knot. The creator calls it a test of an open-world snake game, and the jam-sized structure keeps the experiment brisk: a handful of tiny challenges connected by the pleasure of slithering onward.
What you can do there
- Move a snake across small islands
- Solve compact puzzles
- Undo moves or restart
Why we picked it
The neat trick is scale. Rather than inflate a familiar snake into an endless score chase, lunarDust uses the creature as a compact exploration tool and lets separate islands do the level design. It feels like a trail map doodled in puzzle notation, with enough room to wander and enough restraint to end before the tail gets tired.
How to get the most from it
Start with WASD for movement, especially if the arrow keys behave oddly in your browser. Use Z freely to reverse a move; version 0.2.0 added that safeguard along with arrow-key support. Press R only when you want to restart the current state. The creator estimates a few minutes for the whole prototype, so it works well as a single-sitting puzzle snack.
Good to know
This is a free HTML5 Unity prototype made for Thinky Puzzle Game Jam 5 in June 2025. Its July 3 update added undo, arrow controls, and a final-puzzle layout fix. One jam host still reported that arrows failed in a play session and used WASD instead. The destination allows framing only from itch.io, and current touch, audio, accessibility, privacy, and save behavior remain undocumented.
Who made it, and when?
lunarDust is the credited creator or organization. The earliest supported launch date we found is June 29, 2025. A documented update was recorded July 3, 2025.
