CTRL FRK

A tiny control panel where teamwork steadily becomes tug-of-war

CTRL FRK is a browser prototype that turns collaboration into a minimalist control-room game. Its interface carries the story, while steadily mounting friction turns shared creation into a small, sharp argument about who gets to steer.

What is CTRL FRK?

The premise lives in the controls rather than a block of exposition. Contemporary Ludum Dare players described learning the mechanics through play as new ideas arrived, then wrestling with rising difficulty and a conference-call sequence. That friction appears to be the point: the creator says the message is carried by mechanics and interface, so cooperation is not merely the theme pasted on top. It is the machinery, and the machinery is having a day.

What you can do there

  • Coordinate a team through an interface whose controls carry the story

Why we picked it

Few jam games make their controls do this much narrative work. CTRL FRK uses a restrained interface to turn ordinary coordination into an emotional system, earning both praise and exasperation from its original players. It is compact, specific, and unusually committed to making the player's frustration mean something.

How to get the most from it

Open it on a desktop browser and follow the page's fullscreen recommendation. Give each newly introduced control a moment before piling on more input; the changing relationship between the interface and the team is the point, not an obstacle to rush past.

Good to know

This is an HTML5 prototype made with Construct during a 48-hour 2017 game jam. The current itch.io page offers browser play and recommends fullscreen. Live audio, exact controls, mobile support, accessibility, saving, and present-day maintenance were not verified.
