Let's Get That Bread is a half-hour escape puzzle with gloriously low stakes: you are an ancient Roman bread thief armed with your boss's dossier. Keep the clue packet beside the game, work through the baker's defenses, and try to leave with history's most overprotected loaf.
What is Let's Get That Bread?
This 2019 jam game treats a bakery like a high-security vault. The browser window holds the rooms, while a separate downloadable packet or Imgur gallery supplies the notes meant to get you through them. That split gives the puzzle a pleasing prop-table feel: part escape room, part suspiciously serious historical homework, all in service of bread the creators cheerfully call mediocre by modern standards. The project was made for Portland Indie Game Squad's edutainment jam under an ancient-history theme. Its page tags the route with ciphers, maze work, and escape-game structure, and estimates a session at about half an hour.
What you can do there
- Read a separate dossier of notes
- Solve rooms in a baker's security system
- Steal the target loaf
Why we picked it
The companion dossier is more than decoration; it turns a small browser game into a desk-spreading caper. Pairing elaborate security with an aggressively ordinary prize keeps the puzzle from becoming stuffy, while the ancient-Rome frame gives the joke a specific place to land.
How to get the most from it
Open the document zip or linked gallery before starting and read the first set of notes, as the creators recommend. Keep the clues visible beside the game while moving room by room. Press 3 to skip the current room if you need to recover progress, F1 to restart, and adjust browser zoom if the game frame is too large.
Good to know
Plan on roughly 30 minutes and a desktop-sized setup with the clue packet open separately. The game runs in HTML5 and has a 29 MB Windows download; the 936 kB document collection is offered alongside it on a name-your-own-price page. Live puzzle behavior, historical accuracy, audio, touch support, and screen-reader compatibility were not verified.
