What is The Library of Babel?
The Library of Babel is not storing an impossibly large collection. Instead, a deterministic system maps locations in a fictional library to pages of text, allowing any valid page to have an address and be found again. Most pages are noise. A few contain recognizable fragments, and any text that fits the rules can be located somewhere. The gap between those facts and the feeling of searching the library is where the project becomes philosophical.
Why we picked it
It transforms a literary thought experiment into a usable website. The result raises questions about information, meaning, randomness, and whether containing every answer is useful at all.

Search for a short sentence you just invented, open its page, and copy the location. Then browse adjacent pages to see how completely meaning is surrounded by noise.

Random pages can generate arbitrary letter sequences. The project is conceptual and does not discover hidden predictions, copyrighted books, or meaningful messages by itself.
