Concept 1 turns Cloisters Interactive's creative rulebook into six short, mouse-driven vignettes. Each chapter gives one design idea its own visual logic, from mirrored discovery and loose puzzle pieces to bright pinball energy. The browser version is a free two-level demo; the complete Windows release costs at least $1.
What is Concept 1?
This is less a lecture about game design than a tiny playable manifesto. Narrative, Stylized, Meaningful, Whimsical, Experimental, and Evocative each receive a compact scene with a different palette and physical vocabulary. One chapter asks you to rotate a mirror and find what the surface hides; another loosens puzzle pieces from any single correct formation; the finale borrows pinball's brisk bounce and glow. The result is deliberately concise and a little elusive: you learn Cloisters' priorities by handling them, not by reading a wall of definitions.
What you can do there
- Play a free two-level browser demo
- Manipulate abstract objects to uncover each chapter's design idea
Why we picked it
Few studio-about pages let you tug on the ideas they describe. Concept 1 makes its creative principles tactile, then changes the rules before any one metaphor wears thin. An independent player review also found the Narrative, Meaningful, and Experimental chapters especially effective, which matches the project's strongest promise: turning an abstract design value into something you can discover with the mouse.
How to get the most from it
Start with the free browser demo, which includes Whimsical and Experimental. Give each scene a moment before hunting for a goal: move the mouse, drag obvious shapes, test connections, and watch how the visual response explains the chapter. If the two samples click, the six-part Windows release is the fuller fifteen-minute tour.
Good to know
The free browser build is a two-level demo; the complete release is a 92 MB Windows download priced at $1 or more. The listing specifies mouse input and English, while keyboard, touch, mobile, screen-reader, and reduced-motion support are undocumented. Sound is part of the design, so headphones are sensible. The page can frame only inside itch.io, not inside Site Stumble's player.
