We Could Just Be Annoying

A witchy road trip where every demo tape makes the friendship sound a little more frayed.

Harper and Cherry want their favorite musician to notice them, so they take their homemade songs on the road. This short visual novel treats the demo tapes as part of the storytelling, letting fuzzy rock, electronic, and noise textures reveal the trouble underneath the pair's bright pixel-art charm.

What is We Could Just Be Annoying?

We Could Just Be Annoying is a compact Ren'Py visual novel with the bones of a concept album. Harper and Cherry are young witches, bandmates, and devoted fans of Harmonious Witch; their scheme to win their idol's attention becomes a sideways portrait of obsession and a partnership starting to slip out of tune. The creator pairs pixel characters with photographic material and uses the duo's rough-edged songs as story beats, while choices surface thoughts that do not always make it into conversation. It is deliberately a prologue, more interested in introducing a prickly relationship and its musical vocabulary than tying a bow around either one.

What you can do there

  • Read the visual novel
  • Listen to the characters' demo tapes
  • Choose thoughts that shape the viewpoint

Why we picked it

The neat trick is not merely putting songs beside a visual novel. The demo-tape idea gives the characters a way to perform confidence while the writing lets doubt leak through. That makes a small browser story feel like a handmade EP with narrative splinters in the sleeve.

How to get the most from it

Choose Run demo tapes for the browser edition and give the audio room to matter; the music is part of the narrative rather than background decoration. Name-your-own-price downloads for Windows, macOS, and Linux are also listed on the page.

Good to know

The story includes unhealthy parasocial attachment and the beginnings of an unhealthy queerplatonic dynamic. It is a prologue, so expect setup rather than full resolution. Browser controls, accessibility behavior, mobile support, and exact play time were not verified during this check.
